2027 Wall Calendar
A quiet pattern, traced by hand.
Twelve months, twelve characters, twelve strokes of ink drawn slowly enough to matter.
Each page pairs a hand-brushed kanji with its Japanese Traditional month name — 睦月 through 師走 — set against a traditional wagara pattern, beginning with 独楽文 (komamon) for January — the spinning-top motif tied to New Year's play and a wish for the year to turn smoothly. The linework is drawn by hand, not generated or traced from a template; each curve carries the same unevenness a brush leaves when a person, not a machine, is holding it.
This isn't a calendar meant to disappear into the wall. It's meant to be looked at — a small, recurring pause built into the shape of the year.

The Work
The Work
Most calendars are functional. This one is purposeful.
Each month begins as an original, hand-drawn calligraphy work — created slowly, using traditional Japanese Shodō brush techniques. Not designed on a screen. Written by hand, once, in a single session.
Each page preserves what was present in that moment: the natural movement of the stroke, the weight and texture of the ink, the subtle variations no digital process can replicate. Behind each character sits a wagara pattern from Japan's textile tradition, chosen to sit quietly alongside the ink rather than compete with it.
Look closely at the edges of the brushstroke.
Where the ink thins and the paper shows through — that is 掠れ (kasure). The dry stroke. The moment the brush moved faster than the ink could follow.
In mass-produced calligraphy prints, this quality is smoothed out or corrected in reproduction. In BrushForma's calendar, it is preserved intentionally, month after month.
掠れ is not a flaw. In Japanese brushwork, it is one of the most expressive qualities a stroke can carry — evidence that the mark was made by a living hand, at speed, with full commitment. It cannot be manufactured. It can only happen once.
Twelve months. Twelve moments that happened only once.
