Live Calligraphy for Weddings & Events

Hare no hi (ハレの日) is the Japanese name for a day touched by light: the rare, luminous days a life is measured by. A wedding is one of them. So is the evening a team gathers at the end of a long year, a birthday that marks a new decade, or a neighborhood that comes together to celebrate.

So much of a gathering is chosen to look beautiful, and then quietly put away. I would like to offer something your guests keep: a word brushed for them, in the moment, by hand.

Weddings

A live calligraphy station

Guests come to the table, and I brush their name, or a character they choose, onto a card to take home. One breath, one stroke, written while they watch.

Welcome signs

Your names, or a character such as 寿 (celebration) or 縁 (the thread that brought you together), brushed for the entrance or the seating table.

A keepsake for the two of you

One character chosen for your marriage, finished with your date and my seal, to hang at home long after the day.

Company gatherings

For holiday parties, team celebrations, and client events, each guest leaves with a character brushed for them. I can also brush a single word that carries what your team stands for, to hang where you work.

Private celebrations

Birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, and the quieter milestones in between. A live station for your guests, or one piece made for the person you are celebrating.

Community events

For festivals, cultural gatherings, and local events, a live demonstration of shōdō: how the ink is prepared, how a character takes shape, and what it means.

About the artist

I am Assaa, a Japanese calligrapher from Japan, now based in San Diego, and the founder of BrushForma. Every piece I make begins the same way: ink, a brush, and full attention. Tell me where you are gathering, and I will let you know what is possible.

Share your date, venue, and what you have in mind, and I will reply within two business days with ideas and availability.
